You might remember a while back that the developers of the PS3 exclusive third-person shooter, Starhawk, stated that all future Starhawk DLC maps would be totally free of charge. It was certainly a bold statement, as very few developers release free map packs, especially for multiplayer shooters. Well it looks like LightBox Interactive are living up to that statement, as today they are releasing a new patch for Starhawk that includes two brand new free maps: Collider and Origin.
The two new maps are based on the planet Cypress, which was apparently the planet where Rift Energy was first discovered. The maps are set near the first ever Rift research facility, which was abandoned and is now overgrown by lush vegetation. There’s lots of trees in the maps, which provide a great layout for troops to run around and take cover behind. There’s also a few pre-built structures with interiors, but don’t worry, there aren’t loads so the game’s unique Build and Battle system still plays a major part.
That isn’t all that patch 1.03 adds, however. It also adds a prestige system, which works similarly to the prestige and legacy systems of Call of Duty and Uncharted respectively. Starhawk’s prestige levels aren’t numbers though, each of them is actually a Greek symbol ranking of ALPHA through OMEGA. These are apparently very hard ranks to achieve and the jump from level 50 to ALPHA is steep because they are intended for the hard-core community, so it’ll take a lot of time and dedication to reach the level cap now.
Elsewhere, 1.03 squashes a whole assortment of various bugs and glitches and also adds the ability to play custom music from your PS3′s Hard Drive in-game. There’s literally tons of changes in 1.03, so if you want to check out the whole list then be sure to direct your browser over to LightBox Interactive’s blog post over on the official EU PlayStation Blog.
