During this morning’s Nintendo Direct conference, perhaps the biggest piece of news beyond the 3DS XL announcement was that the upcoming Super Smash Bros. title for 3DS and Wii U will be developed by Namco Bandai. Although the game will still be helmed by previous director Masahiro Sakurai, Yoshito Higuchi and Kenya Kobayashi will lead the team as director and producer respectively. Both individuals previously worked on the Tales series for Namco Bandai.
What this means in terms of character involvement is still unknown but it wouldn’t be daft to imagine a few Namco characters might slip in. Pac-Man duking it out with Mario? Probably. Jin Kazama fighting with Pikachu? Less likely but never say never.
Development is very early in so don’t expect any solid news on the title for a while yet and a release for even longer.
