With the recently announced God of War: Ascension having nothing in the way of numbers in the title, you always got the impression that the series was perhaps going off the beaten track a little. And it seems that’s the case, as it’s been confirmed that the latest Greek epic will feature multiplayer for the first time.
Much like just about every online multiplayer these days, there’ll be unlockable goodies such as armour, weapons and outfits. Kratos plays no part in it at all, it’ll instead be you and your created warrior taking on the world. You can either team up to take down titans in an all-new co-op mode, or face off against others in a brutal head-to-head gladiatorial battle. One thing that hasn’t changed too much is the scale of the battlefield, with these new screens showing off a mammoth one-eyed boss taken on by several players.
That doesn’t mean the single player will be completely abandoned though. There’ll be a “revamped” weapon and combat system, with new gut-busting puzzles and mini-games that may or not involve Kratos doing naughty things with groups of ladies. Apparently the campaign will be shorter than the the first three games, but it won’t be by too much.
The story sees Kratos attempt to break his blood oath with Ares once and for all, and get revenge on the original God of War who played a part in lulling the protagonist into slaughtering his own family in the first game. With the PlayStation Blog gearing up for a 4pm streaming session, it won’t be long before we know more either.
