Sonic 4 Trailer

After months of speculation over SEGA’s Project Needlemouse, it was as we expected – Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is on the way. Details inside…

We all know that it’s been a while since we have all seen a decent Sonic game, but now SEGA have listened to the fans and taken the game back to its roots. Yep, it’s finally going back to the old-skool style of 2D gameplay that we all love and have been asking for. Let’s face it, Sonic has never really worked in 3D, so the revert back to 2D is certainly a welcome one. Obviously it will come in full HD visuals, feature the classic Spin Dash move, and will also now include a homing attack.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1 will include many of the special stages, locations, and Zones that will bring back fond memories for fans of the original Sonic games. Each level will also be selectable from the main menu, meaning you can go back and play your favourite areas and attempt to beat your previous times and scores. It will also see the return of the ever devious and evil Dr. Eggman in newly designed boss battles.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I is a return to the classic game style of the original Sonic games” commented Gary Knight, European Marketing Director SEGA Europe Ltd. “It’s great to be able to offer fans of the Sonic series the type of game they have been asking for in a high definition experience.”

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1 will be hitting Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network, and WiiWare this summer!

My wife loves the old Sonic and Mario games. She was extremely excited for New Super Mario Bros Wii before it came out but was very disappointed with how difficult it was and how the controls were not as precise as she’d gotten used to on the DS.

For that reason, and all of the rubbish Sonic games between ’94 and now, she’s not at all enthused about this announcement. I’ll still get it for her and she can decide for herself.

I think it’s about time Sega took Sonic back to his roots. The fans have been asking for it for years.

Yeah it’s good to see it go back to it’s roots but then I am also staying calm till I have had a chance to play it. Sonic has let us all down to many times to get excited about it ever again!
